Things You Should Know Before Your First Bridal Appointment

Finding your dress is like finding your perfect someone. It can be a magical time and usually is. The experience is an amazing part of your love story that you'll want to share with others. So make sure you're prepared for your first bridal appointment! By making this experience feel less overwhelming, you can say yes to the dress without stress. Here are a few things you should know before you walk into your first bridal appointment.

First, have your timeline laid out

The majority of the time, you’re not going to be able to go home with your dress the day you choose one. You’ll usually have a gown made to order, which can take anywhere from six to eight months – and that doesn’t even include the fittings that you will have to do once the dress comes in! So make sure you have plenty of time to find your dream wedding dress. We always recommend that you start looking up to a year in advance of your wedding date.

Have a budget in mind

You can buy a dress for a few hundred dollars or thousands of dollars. Make sure you can pay the required deposit at your first appointment and discuss the budget with the person paying for the dress before scheduling an appointment. Our goal is to help every bride find the gown of their dreams. We can help you find something within your budget!

Come in with inspiration

We always encourage brides to check out dresses online and even consider making a Pinterest board of gown silhouettes and styles they like! While we usually have brides try on as many different styles as possible, it helps to have an idea of where to start. After all, we want to help you find a gown that is catered to your personal style and preferences!

Proper undergarments, shoes, and makeup

Make sure that you’re prepared beforehand with appropriate undergarments! While you might not know exactly what dress silhouette you’re going for, wearing a convertible bra that can be adjusted for different necklines is super helpful. You can also wear shapewear if you want, but it’s not necessary. We also recommend that you bring along a pair of shoes that have a heel height similar to what you want for your wedding day so we can get a full picture of what you’re wanting. Also, it might be tempting to come in with full hair and makeup, but you run the risk of getting makeup on the gowns or having extra trouble getting in and out of them. Keep makeup to a minimum!

These tips should help you prepare for your first appointment! If you still haven't scheduled your bridal appointment, do so now!
